Levy to seek GOP nod

Steve Levy, a Suffolk County executive, announced this week he wants the Republican nomination for governor.

The catch? Levy is a Democrat.

Last fall, Levy ran a successful re-election bid for his current seat, and he did so on the Democratic, Republican, Conservative and Independence lines.

Last week, Rick Lazio scoffed when Levy suggested he could nail down the GOP nomination. And Lazio -- a former Congressman -- may be right to scoff.

While Attorney General Andrew Cuomo continues to inexplicably delay declaring his candidacy, Lazio has steadily gained a bevy of endorsements from both Republican and Conservative party leaders throughout the state.
