Elizabethtown man charged with second-degree rape

A 22-year-old Elizabethtown man faces several felony charges following allegations that he engaged a minor in sexual acts.

Saranac Lake Village Police arrested Kendall T. Fenton at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday and charged him with second-degree rape, a class-D felony.

He’s also charged with second-degree criminal sexual act, a class-D felony; third-degree criminal sexual act, a class-E felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class-A misdemeanor.

Chief Bruce Nason told WNBZ that officers were out on routine patrol when they noticed a suspicious parked vehicle in the parking lot at the Saranac Lake High School. Police approached the vehicle and engaged both individuals in an interview and determined that a sexual act had taken place.

When officers established the age of both subjects, they discovered the female was just 14-years-old.

“Subsequent interviews also determined that the two subjects engaged in multiple sex acts, resulting in the additional charges,” Nason said.

Nason said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be pending.

Fenton was processed at the police department, arraigned in village court and remanded to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

He’s scheduled to reappear in village court at a later date.
